Relationship

After being here and realizing that EVERYTHING in Ghana works best in relationship...well I guess now that I think about it, it really is the way God designed it to be....I think most of the time we think it is to much work to function this way...but boy does it have great reward when we do.
But anyway....realtionship....
I posted earlier about the generous offer we got from a woman who lives in Cape Coast, to stay at her home.
That is what we did.

(this is the wall in Kathryn's house...an artist painted it for her, as you can see, it is beautiful and amazing. It is about music in Africa, and in it are many traditional symbols.) She use to teach "African Art History" at Whatcom Com College.

What we did not know is that God had some "relationship" building to do.
Her name is Kathryn....and guess where she lives...Yes, in Cape Coast...but only for 6 months. The other 6 she calls Bellingham WA her home. (Hummmmm our neighbor)
When we arrived we were amazed by her "welcome".
We ate a bit of fried rice (which pleased the kids to no end) and then took a trek up to a Bed and Breakfast....friends of hers owned. It happened to be where they have made a lagoon and have crocodiles.

(this big guy...think it was a girl...but anyway, "it" was laying on the other side of the wall....I did not have to zoom....it was pretty cool)
She wanted us to see the birds fly in at night...they spend the day at the beach then fly in to some trees around the lagoon from 4-6. That is what we did. From an open air cabana we sat and viewed the birds fly in. First there were only 5 or 6, but by the end of the hour there were hundreds. Very beautiful.
She is a woman of many talents, but what she does in Ghana is a GIFT of great worth.
She works with a non profit org to fund schooling to children in Ghana. It is a great story....one that we needed to hear! Dave and I are thankfuf that God arranged another opportunity to open a door for His Kids to make a connection to make a difference in the lives of children.
She holds and auction each year to fund raise for the kids.....I know we will invite all who want to come. She gets items from Africa and sends them to the States and sells them at the auction.
Dave and John got to play with one of the items in a very fun way.
It is a drum...a really nice drum. Kathryn let John try it our first night there.
This kid has a "beat" in his head that never quits.....so guess what, he gets to playing on this drum and we all sit AMAZED at what he is doing.
So much so, that Kathryn called her friend to come over and give Dave and John a personal one hour drum lesson!

Here we all are with "Kofi" the GREAT drummer...after our hour long, very clear and good lesson. The boys had a BLAST! The girls did too! I have great video of the lesson!
We wrapped up our stay with this gifted, wonderful woman by exchangine numbers, emails and ministry infomation. Wow....we are blessed and thankful for the connections in "relationsip" God is builing in us and through us while we are here in Ghana.
*more posts to come.....with some pretty cute kids skipping on the beach and splashing in the pool...but for now, the internet is to slow, and my sunruned body is crying for some REST!
Until tomorrow....BLESSINGS!
