Shopping!

Today Romana had to run errands so we got to take a taxi to the craft market. It was our first outing with out a "Ghanain" (adventerous and a bit crazy) We were very clear to the driver...and he spoke back to us many times "YES I know this place " yet when we arrived at our first destination (which we thought was the craft market) we showed up at the "Mall" airconditioned and western...no no no...this is not where we want to go....hummm.
We asked a lady in the travel agency in the mall to come out and talk to our driver...they talked and talked and we got back into the car. We drove to where he thought and no no no, it was not the right place either, we turned around and drive again, to a place that looked like a market...yet 90% of what they had was wood.
OUr taxi stayed by the road, we went from shop to shop looking at all things before we bought, then began to buy once we saw the goods and knew some of the prices.
Ashlie and I bought drums...so very cool...daddy will be so happy!
(what we did not realize is the happiness it would bring to all the kids and staff when we got home and they all squealed with delight, drummed and danced!..it took about an hour for each child to have a turn...we occupied the others with a huge bag of gummy sharks Stacey brought from home. That is a cute story in itself....kids who have never had a gummy anything...Chomp it chomp it they all say to eachother, meaning "bite it"
We found beautiful wooden items to take home that will help the kids have a "memory" of Ghana. We had many chances to share about Jesus with others. The vendors sell in small booths and live behind the booths...it is like a small village of people. They call eachother "Brother"
After an hour there we asked our driver to take us to a small craft place we saw by a hotel that was on the way home. Most of our pictures are from there.
It was 90 plus degrees and we were dripping...yet we laughed and laughed as we tried clothes on and jewlery. Each person is so friendly and welcoming. As you pass by the booth you hear "Sister, come sister to see, you are welcome"
We made some fun purchases, drank our water from the little girl selling water on her head, took lots of pictures, laughed alot and made the most of a great day.
Of course our driver, got us back to Beacon House and began to fuss about the time and the price...the house mom came out of the gate and helped us work it out...but there was a bit of a fit by him in the end...we were being fair considering he never did get us to our destination :O) We paid, he left and all the kids flooded the gate to see what we got at market.
Let the drum beat and dancing begin!

It sounds like so much fun! What are you holding in the second picture? It looks like a sewing kit or something but I'm sure I just have that on the brain.

Praying for you all,
Sue :)
